The Tea Board of Tanzania (TBT) is a corporate body established by the Tea Act No. 3 of 1997 after the separation of the regulatory and development functions of the then Tanzania Tea Authority. It is entrusted with the mandatory responsibility of regulating the tea industry in Tanzania. The Board came into force on the 1st October 1997. The main functions as stipulated in the Tea Act No. 3 of 1997 are as follows:

  • Regulating the tea industry in terms of control and improvement of the cultivation and processing  of tea,
  • Licensing of tea blenders and packers,
  • Collecting, keeping and maintaining statistics related to tea industry,
  • Control of pests and diseases.
